Home Treatment for Acne Scars

To some people, scars can add character to their face. Edward James Olmos is a great example! For most of us, though, acne can leave us feeling self-conscious and awkward. If you don’t want to go to the dermatologist or shell out a lot of money to look and feel better, you should consider using a home treatment for acne scars.

First, it’s important to know that acne is not always caused by having a dirty face… bacteria gets into your pores and can cause inflammation of the tissue, leading to blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, and all manner of icky bumps and sores. Sometimes the best prevention of acne and the home treatment for acne scars are to eliminate the problem before it even starts! Eating a healthy diet can help your body fight acne-causing bacteria, and you may even want to be checked for food allergies, which can cause outbreaks.

You can further prevent breakouts by cleaning your skin with facial cleansers or certain natural cleansers, such as witch hazel, tea tree oil, clove oil, rosewood oil, bergamot oil, or lavender oil. You’ll probably want to mix the oils with Grapeseed Oil to cut down on their concentrations. Make sure you try any new treatment on a small spot of your face first to make sure your skin isn’t allergic and that the ingredients don’t cause you to break out even more. You can also rub your skin with ice cubes to shrink the pores, because large, open pores can become clogged with sweat and dirt. Folks have been using these methods to prevent acne and provide home treatment for acne scars for years!

Some people prefer to use the juice of fresh lemons or limes with a cotton ball on their faces, which can lighten the dark scars and blemishes. Vitamin A is another good alternative as a home treatment for acne scars, and you get it by slicing a tomato and placing it over your scars to keep your face from producing more acne-causing sebum. Fenugreek leaves can be found in the spice section of your grocery store or even online, and can be boiled into a paste to use as a mask to treat scars.

Hydration and moisturizing your face are two more crucial home treatments for acne scars. Most movie and television stars will tell you that one of the reasons they look so young is because they always moisturize. Even if your face is naturally oily, find a moisturizer that works with your skin type. For a home remedy, try honey as a mask or rubbing olive oil into the skin. Moisturized skin looks more pliable and reflects light more evenly to hide existing acne scars.

There are many home treatments for acne scars that can help your skin become, and stay, more clear. There is often a lot of truth in old wives’ tales and home remedies to solve these kinds of problems; just make sure you do a little research to make sure your chosen method will work for you!
